Love Letter to You: TUMIT

Dear You (yes, You reading this blog right now. You, with the eyes),

How dare You! You have some nerve buddy/missy! Did Your mother teach You any manners whatsoever? You stood me up!

I was in line for TUMIT, waiting for You to show that beautiful face of Yours and You didn’t even bother showing up. I watched it with some friends instead and it was SO much more fun than with You! What’s the matter? Huh? You have OTHER things to do? Like work? Like television? Like WHATEVER YOU DO FOR RECREATION?!?! You had something better to do with your precious time? Better than Kate Weiss? I DON’T THINK SO.

And for your information, I had a great time watching it WITHOUT You. Because You thought it would be too politically charged, didn’t you? Well it WASN’T! Reneltta Arluk wrote a beautifully poetic piece about life’s pains and joys, . You know what life is right? Well go get one!

You would have liked the sound design if you’d gone. It complimented the piece nicely and was extremely detailed from heavy breathing to the sounds from a cellphone. And I can tell you that’ll be one of the only places you’ll hear a cellphone for a while because I’m not returning those texts!

It was a brave, new work. Reneltta really challenges herself with this one-woman show. And maybe that’s what I need right now: My life to be a one-man show. That is if You don’t smarten up.

I’d better see you tomorrow at Absurdesque. Or this very well may be over.

Sincerely,

Me.

Love Letter to You: BASH'd & Sound Machine

Dear You (yes, You reading this blog right now. You, with the eyes),

Thanks so much for coming to see BASH’d and Sound Machine with me the other night. It was so great to kick off the Canoe fest with you, and doing it right. You know? Opening tickets, Chris Craddock and Nathan Cuckrow, hot rhyme, pink hats? I had such a great time and I hope you did too.

I remember when this show was playing at the Fringe this summer. It was sold out and all my friends had seen it. They wouldn’t stop talking about it as I, being unable to see it, had to listen with a smile fixed on my face, nodding and wishing we would change the friggin subject or shut up and eat Chinese food. But I’m so glad I got to see it for the first time with you, You beautiful person.

I think it’s one of the most relevant plays I’ve seen in a while. Gay love has only been in the public eye since the 80’s and is now finally being seen by politicians as an acceptable part of society. And for a lot of straight people, it’s scary. Cause they don’t know anything about the culture right? And You were so right about Chris and Nathan inviting us and giving us insight into this subculture. And it was so cute to see You laughing throughout their love ballad rap. By the way, are You a guy or a girl? Or both? You haven’t told me. Oh, You’re so mysterious!

After the first show we went and got a chocolate milkshake to share – You always know my favorite – and went to see Sound Machine. We had such fun watching, hearing, and smelling that show together! You remember that conversation we had about whether what I see as red is actually what you see as red? Like how my red could be your blue? The show was that philosophical debate except with sounds. We had a blast together as we watched these mad scientists of sound create music like it was alchemy. It reminded me so much of the Blue Man Group. There was so much discovery and play in the show. You especially loved the air guitar and air drums with those wired gloves that were actually making music. You just love it when a show has cool tech work. That’s adorable.

Valentine’s Day is coming up so if you get me the soundtrack to Sound Machine (if there is one) I’ll get you the script to BASH’d! Anyway it was really fun yesterday, and I can’t wait to see TUMIT with your tomorrow.

All My Heart,

Me.
