Epic and intimate, Kenneth Brown’s towering achievement is a five-hour saga produced in three Episodes over three years. Workshop West presents the complete saga together for the first time.
Spiral Dive is… a war story, a love story, a story of innocence destroyed and honour salvaged. It confronts the difficulty war and is a and a paean to Canadian courage. Above all, it’s gripping theatre, told with simple, ingenious theatricality by four superbly talented and utterly committed actors.
The extremities of love, violent combat and the poetry of flight meet in the story of a Canadian fighter pilot in WWII England in 1943.
Spiral Dive follows Jack Harding, a Canadian pilot trainee on a harrowing journey to maturity through lethal Spitfire training, deadly aerial dogfights, and the pursuit of a dangerous romance. More than a war play, Spiral Dive explores the psychology of an era and a nation. Using a unique theatrical language, Brown tells the very Canadian story of a man and a country coming of age.
