ABOUT DEAD LETTER:

“Like all desperate people she was hungry for omens." In this small-scale mystery by Edmonton favourite Conni Massing, Amy finds that the mundane mysteries of lost socks, and redirected mail are much more the happenstance. 

 

 

The Playwright

 
 

Conni Massing is an award-winning writer working in theatre, film and television. Recent stage credits include Fresh Hell (Shadow Theatre); Matara and The Invention of Romance, both premiered by Workshop West Playwrights Theatre;Oh! Christmas Tree (Roxy Performance Series), and her widely produced stage adaptations of W.O Mitchell’s Jake and the Kid and Bruce Allen Powe’s The Aberhart Summer. Conni has worked as a writer and story editor on television series such as Mentors, The Beat, North of 60, The Adventures of Shirley Holmes, Taking it Off and Family Restaurant. Film projects include Invisible, co-written with and directed by Neil Grahn, and Voila, directed by Geraldine Carr. Her published work includes seven plays and a full-length comic memoir, Roadtripping: On the Move with the Buffalo Gals. Her writing has been recognized by the Betty Mitchell Awards, the Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Awards, the Alberta Film and Television Awards, the Academy of Cinema and Television, the Writers Guild of Alberta, the Writers Guild of Canada, the Edmonton Arts Council (Artists Trust Fund), and the Alberta Playwrights Network Playwriting Contest. Conni is a proud member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada and the Writers Guild of Canada, and a founding member of the Alberta Playwrights Network. She’s delighted to be a part of Springboards.

The Creative Team


Tracy Carroll is the Co-Artistic Director of Concrete Theatre, a theatre for young audiences touring company. She has worked as a director, dramaturg, teacher and producer for 25+ years and has held the Artistic Associate position at Alberta Playwrights’ Network as well as at the Citadel Theatre, where she co-created KidsPlay at the Citadel. She has been the co-producer of several play development programs including Script Salon, EDMONten (a showcase of ten-minute plays) and Peep Show! (at SkirtsAfire), where she helped with the development of 33 new plays written by Edmonton women. Tracy is the facilitator of the Young Playwriting Company at the Citadel Theatre and a teacher for Workshop West’s Writes of Passage school program. Most recently, Tracy directed and dramaturged The Space Between Stars by Christine Lesiak (SkirtsAfire) and Fresh Hell by Conni Massing (Shadow Theatre). She is delighted to be working again with Conni on her new play!

Collin Doyle is an Edmonton based writer and actor. As an actor, Collin has worked at the Citadel Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects, Workshop West Theatre, Azimuth Theatre, Theatre Network, and with The Bedlam Theatre Concern. Collin performed in the world premiere production of Stephen Massicotte’s Mary’s Wedding and the Canadian Premiere production of The Pillowman. He received a Sterling Award (Fringe category) for his performance in Edward Albee’s The Zoo Story. In 2018, NeWest Press published a collection of Collin’s plays, The Mighty Carlins and Other Plays. Collin is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada.
