From the author of the Canadian Classic Mary's Wedding comes a new play about what it means to be a war hero. In May 1918, No 3 Canadian Stationary Hospital was bombed by a German plane. No one who was there was ever the same again. 

 

 

The Playwright

 
 

Stephen Massicotte’s play Mary’s Wedding premiered in 2002 at the Alberta Theatre Projects’ playRites Festival and was the winner of the 2000 Alberta Playwriting Competition, the 2002 Betty Mitchell Award, and the 2003 Alberta Book Award. His play The Oxford Roof Climber’s Rebellion premiered as a co-production between the Tarragon Theatre and the Great Canadian Theatre Company and was a hit off Broadway. It won the 2007 Canadian Author’s Association Award for Best English Language Play and the 2007 Alberta Book Award for Drama. His most recent play, The Clockmaker, premiered at the Alberta Theatre Projects’ 2009 playRites Festival and won the 2009 Betty Mitchell Award for Best New Play and the 2011 Toronto Theatre Critics Award for Best English Language Play. Stephen wrote the feature films The Dark and Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning, the award-winning short film June and, most recently, Historica Canada’s Winnipeg Falcons and Nursing Sisters Heritage Minutes.

Heather Inglis

Director

Beth Graham is a playwright, dramaturg, and actor. Her plays include: The Gravitational Pull of Bernice Trimble, Pretty Goblins, and The Drowning Girls (co-writer). This past fall, her most recent collaboration, DORA: the wicked one, was presented at Workshop West Playwrights' Theatre. She is currently the Lee Playwright in Residence at the University of Alberta.

Rachel Bowron is a graduate of the MacEwan Theatre Arts Program, and is an Artistic Associate with Teatro Live. Select theatre credits include Clue, The Garneau Block, The Candidate/The Party, Avenue Q (Citadel Theatre), Crazy for You (Citadel Theatre/Theatre Calgary); Love is for Poor People, Caribbean Muskrat, Barefoot in the Park (Teatro Live); Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (Shadow Theatre); Don’t Dress for Dinner, The Last Resort (Mayfield Dinner Theatre); It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s Superman (Plain Jane Theatre); and Legoland (Blarney Productions). She recently served as Assistant Music Director for the Citadel’s Almost a Full Moon, and has worked as costume designer on Teatro Live’s A Fit Happy Life, A Grand Time in the Rapids, Love is for Poor People, and The Exquisite Hour. Rachel Bowron

Alexandra Dawkins (she/her) is a theatre performer, musician, writer, and director based in ᐊᒥᐢᑿᒌᐚᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ (Amiskwacîwâskahikan) / Edmonton, AB, on Treaty 6 Territory. She holds a BFA in Acting from the University of Alberta, a certificate from Manitoulin Conservatory for Creation and Performance, and has completed One Yellow Rabbit’s summer Lab Intensive. She is made her directorial debut this month with the world premiere of Karen Hines’ latest revision of All The Little Animals I Have Eaten. She will be releasing her first studio album this year, Virgo’s Last Stand, and will be attending the premiere of EUDAIMONIA, her first feature-length film which she co wrote with director Dylan Rhys Howard. Working on new plays is a passion of Alexandra’s, and she is thrilled to be joining Springboards again!

Alex Dawkins

Kristin Johnston is delighted to return to Springboards this year. Most recently she appeared in Enough at Northern Light Theatre. Prior to that she was seen in Deathtrap at Teatro Live. Other local credits include: 9 to 5 and Sense And Sensibility (Citadel Theatre), We Had A Girl Before You and Baroness Bianka’s Bloodsongs (Northern Light Theatre and Sterling Nomination). Kristin’s many Fringe credits include: Destination Vegas, Destination Wedding (Whizgiggling Productions), the Sterling-nominated new works Rivercity The Musical and The Unsyncables (Dammittammy Productions) and Release The McCrakkin’ (Accidental Humour Co). Kristin trained at the Banff Centre for the Arts, in the Citadel/Banff professional training program and is a graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts and Red Deer College.

Hayley Moorhouse (she/they) is a queer actor and playwright based in amiskwaciwâskahikan (colonially known as Edmonton). Select acting credits include Hecuba (Bleviss Laboratory Theatre), Smoke (Tiny Bear Jaws), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Lodestar Theatre), Tracks (Vena Amoris Projects), Richard III (Studio Theatre), Slight of Mind (Theatre Yes) and The Bully Project (Concrete Theatre). Hayley's first play, Suspension, premiered at the 2019 Edmonton Fringe Festival. The script was later adapted into a podcast version for the Alberta Queer Calendar Project with Cardiac Theatre. Her solo show Bird Signs received a progress showing at Nextfest 2019, and was adapted into a short film for 2020’s online version of the festival. Their latest play, Tough Guy, is set to be a part of RISER 2024’s Development Stream, presented by Common Ground Arts Society.

Sydney Williams is thrilled to be returning to the Springboards Festival for a second year. Other acting credits include Fresh Hell (Shadow Theatre), Pressure  (Edmonton Fringe 2022), The Light Fishers (staged reading for WWPT) and Feast (Edmonton Fringe 2021). She is interested in exploring across many disciplines as an artist, and has collaborated on projects as a dancer, dramaturge, singer, and writer – including singing in long-term care homes with Smile Theatre in Toronto, creating and performing multidisciplinary solo performance pieces Untogethering and plastic waves for Art Pop-Up TOand most recently working as a songwriter and composer on her upcoming debut EPShe is a graduate of Sheridan College’s Honours Music Theatre Performance program. Thank you to her loved ones near and far.
