DAVID HORAK
DIRECTOR

David Horak is an award-winning director, actor, and educator and was appointed the Artistic Director of the Freewill Shakespeare Festival in 2020. David has directed seven productions for the festival: Comedy of Errors, The Winters Tale, Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest and As You Like It. Other previous productions he has directed include Fun Home (Plain Jane Theatre, Sterling Award), Lend Me A Tenor (The Mayfield), Terry and the Dog (Edmonton Actors Theatre), The Skin of Our Teeth (Bright Young Things), Burning Bluebeard, Stupid F@cking Bird, Bomb-itty of Errors (Edmonton Actors Theatre, Sterling Awards) and right before the pandemic closed down theatres in 2020: Every Brilliant Thing (The Citadel Theatre). He also teaches acting, directing and movement at institutions such as The University of Alberta and Concordia University of Edmonton. David holds BFA (Acting) and MFA (Directing) degrees from the University of Alberta and is a proud member of Canadian Actors Equity (CAEA), AEA, ACTRA, the Association of Theatre Movement Educators (ATME) and The National Alliance of Acting Teachers, USA.
