Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre Launches its 48th Season: 

The Ties That Bind

Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre (WWPT) is thrilled to announce our 48th Season: The Ties That Bind, featuring three distinctly Canadian plays, with a WORLD PREMIERE by one of Edmonton’s most lauded playwrights, Conni Massing! 

Every story begins with a relationship, and every relationship begins with a bond. This season,The Ties That Bind weaves us through the relationships that shape our lives. Laughter, loss, and chance encounters will take us from the gritty streets of New York, to soaring across the wartime European skies. These unforgettable stories remind us that our greatest triumphs, and deepest challenges are never faced alone.

We’re kicking things off with Boy Player by Frank Moher (Nov 4-15, 2026), the true story of an orphan’s adventure performed by the playwright himself. Filled with moments of musical theatre and profound emotion, this captivating tale reveals a remarkable, and life-saving love story.

The WORLD PREMIERE of Last Supper by award-winning Edmonton playwright Conni Massing (Jan 27-Feb 6, 2027) rings in the new year with a high-stakes, humorous culinary caper, dishing out an all-star cast featuring Belinda Cornish, Garett Ross, Jenny McKillop and Graham Mothersill, directed by Brian Deedrick. When a haughty food critic joins a disillusioned chef for dinner, what could possibly go right?!

Our annual Springboards New Play Festival (April 20-24, 2027), returns with the hottest up-and-coming works from the many talents in our city, with just enough sound and lights to ignite the imagination.

The Canadian classic Billy Bishop Goes To War (May 19-30, 2027) will end our season with a finale fit to soar, directed by the founder of WWPT, Gerry Potter, starring Steven Greenfield and Cathy Derkach.
