The Appointment

Originally from the bilingual community of Legal, Joëlle has been calling amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton) home for over 20 years. Actor, director, playwright, singer, dancer and educator, she has performed on stages across the country in French, English and Franglais. She holds a diploma in Theatre Performance from Red Deer College, as well as a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Acting and Masters in Theatre Practice from the University of Alberta. From 2018-2020, Joëlle was the Artistic Director and Co-General Manager of L’UniThéâtre in Edmonton. In September 2013, a staged reading of her play Récolte was presented at Les Zones théâtrale at the National Arts Center in Ottawa. The following month it was produced by L’UniThéâtre and presented in Edmonton. In June 2014, this play was nominated for an Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award in the category of Outstanding New Play (award to playwright). It was published by Les Éditions du blé in September 2023. Other plays include La ville, Huh? and Mémix. Starting March 26, her manifesto J’parle mal, pis j’aime ça, published by Les Éditions du blé in 2024, will be included as part of the exhibit Chez nous: la francophonie de l’Alberta at the Royal Alberta Museum.
