Meet Julie!

Having graduated from the UofA with a BFA in Acting, Julie worked as an actor or in administration during the 1980’s and ‘90’s, at almost every theatre company in Edmonton: Catalyst, Workshop West, Northern Light, Nexus, Phoenix, Citadel, and a number of festivals: First Night, the Fringe and The Dinosaur Festival. By the late 90’s she did a year at the administrative helm of the Drama Department at the UofA before moving to Fort McMurray where she ran Keyano Theatre and Arts Centre for nine years. In 2006 she moved to Ontario to be closer to her elderly parents. After a short stint managing The Sanderson Centre in Brantford, she and her husband, Joe Piccolo, moved to Ajax where she went back to school to get a diploma in accounting. Graduating in 2010 from Durham College in Oshawa, she and Joe moved back to Alberta where she again stepped into the role of senior administrator of the Drama Department at UofA. Then in 2021 after 15 months working in her basement during the pandemic, she retired to her gardens!

Volunteering has been an important part of Julie’s life, sitting on boards (theatres, performing arts associations and councils, a provincial theatre service organization and a horticultural society) and on juries, municipal and provincial. In Fort McMurray, she did a three-year volunteer stint as the Director of Culture and Ceremonies for the 2004 Arctic Winter Games that had 2,500 athletes and 1,100 artists from all around the arctic circle. In 2025, she completed six years on the Theatre Alberta Board where she served as the treasurer for four. She is delighted to be serving as the treasurer of WWPT!
