RAY APPEL
PROJECTION DESIGNER, Boy Player
Meet Ray!
Ray Appel worked with Frank Moher to develop the background projections for “Boy Player,” drawing on a diverse artistic career.
Ray began his career in Sheridan College’s three-year Classical Animation program and went on to work as a graphic artist, educator, administrator, curriculum writer, and instructor at Simon Fraser University. His creative work has included cartoons published in magazines, painted backdrops for theatrical productions, advertising and graphic design for local organizations and boards, and logo design for community groups.
A resident of Gabriola Island, BC, Ray now devotes much of his time to graphic design and painting. His paintings on canvas include West Coast landscapes, pet portraits, and playful studies of shoes. His work is currently exhibited in a local gallery.
An actor and musician as well as a visual artist, Ray has appeared in numerous productions on Gabriola and plays bass with the band Snake Island Railroad. His experience across visual and performing arts informs his approach to the projected imagery in “Boy Player.”
He’s pleased to see the work he created with Frank Moher now reaching new audiences in Edmonton.
